Autumn leaves in sunny daylight

As the seasons start to change, I thought it would a good time to share what’s been brewing here at Novelcrafter. We have some team news, a rundown of recent updates we did over the summer, and a peek at what’s coming next.

Team Updates

We’re starting with a bittersweet farewell. After two wonderful years, Corey is moving on to his next adventure. He was a huge help to Kate with educational content, the author of the Novel Clock outline framework and created the music for our Monthly Muses. We’ll miss him!

On a happier note, our community is growing! To help with all your feedback and questions, we’re thrilled to welcome two new members to the team. Kat has joined us to help with support on our Discord, and Linsey, who started in July, is focused on email and live support. And yes, having now both a Kat and a Kate does make things interesting!

Recent Updates

In the recent Novelcrafter updates, we have added a new onboarding guide to get to know the various app features. We also launched “full-page snippets,” which allow you to write entire documents as a single, continuous page, much like in a traditional word processor.

Over the summer, quite a few models were released (GPT-5, Claude 4.1, Qwen 3, Mistral Medium 3.1), for which we improved support within the Write and Chat interfaces. In addition, we prepared Novelcrafter for the iOS/iPad OS/Mac OS 26 launch and fixed issues in Safari that came up in beta testing.

And, in case you missed it, we recently launched the first part of our Ultimate Beginners Guide!

What We’re Working On Now

So, what’s been keeping us busy? Right now, our main focus is on stability of the app and getting everything ready for some fantastic (and long awaited) new features and improvements.

As already shared on our Discord, we’re working on a refresh of the prompting documentation, including videos for our YouTube channel, and are fixing issues that people have reported with some of the prompting features.

With our user count growing, we’ve noticed more writers experiencing save errors or, in rare cases, potential data loss. Fixing this is our top priority. The pop-up errors interrupt your writing flow, and protecting your work is essential.

As such, we are rewriting the data loading and saving systems for much better reliability in rural areas, and/or unreliable network. Novelcrafter is being used all around the world (in almost 120 countries!), each with different speeds, connectivity issues, and more.

This foundational work is a big project, and does shift our timelines a bit, but it will unlock some powerful and long-awaited improvements in the future. For example, it will allow us to:

  • Add application-wide undo/redo, so you can see what you changed last and undo accidents (e.g. deleting a codex entry, scene, etc.). It’s actually one of the prerequisites for getting proper find and replace working, as it would be quite bad if you can’t undo a full project-wide replacement.
  • Support having Novelcrafter open in multiple browser tabs at once. Right now, opening multiple tabs isn’t supported and can lead to data loss, so fixing this is a key part of the update.
  • Build the framework for future real-time collaboration within Novelcrafter.

Plans for the next months

This year, we aren’t planning a big end-of-year update. However, we do have a few goodies planned throughout fall/autumn.

Beyond the stability improvements, we’re also gearing up for a complete overhaul of the import and export system. We know this is a big one! That’s why we’re doing it in smaller pieces:

  • We want to support many more file types (including Excel spreadsheets and Scrivener projects),
  • Proper importing and exporting your Codex from different sources
  • A full project import and export (which will make custom templates much simpler)

We’ll also keep exploring smaller features and improvements within our Early Access Program. This includes improvements to the Plan view, and the highly-anticipated flexible moving and creating of acts/chapters/scenes.

As always, our plans may change unexpectedly, and we never know if some exciting model release or urgent fix will throw us a curve-ball. Otherwise, that’s it from me! We’ll see you in the next update post or over on Discord if you can’t wait until then.
