When starting your AI journey (in Novelcrafter or in other apps), it can be a little overwhelming. Which model to use? Who to have as an AI vendor? How much AI should I use?

Whilst you do not need to use AI to write with Novelcrafter, it may be that you’re ready to dip your toes into exploring the possibilities. Novelcrafter allows you to use AI in the following ways:

  1. Brainstorm/Research

Brainstorm and interrogate ideas, and research facts for your story in chat.

  2. Plan

Add your outline as context and discuss plot holes, subplots, and future goals.

  3. Generate Prose

Guide prose generation with scene beats, or select ‘continue the story’ to discovery write in the manuscript.

  4. Edit text

Highlight text to expand/rephrase/shorten, providing additional instructions to tailor your prose.

  5. Summarize scenes

Keep track of your story by summarizing scenes once finished, so you can see your story in one view.

  6. Analyse text

Go back to chat and add your scenes/chapters/acts to the context in order to discuss the narrative flow, opening hooks, or anything you want to know about your work.

  7. Editorial Feedback

Use custom prompts to check for plot inconsistencies, historical inaccuracies, and worldbuilding contradictions in your work, using either the outline, a scene or full novel as context.

  8. Chat with characters

Stuck in a rut? Ask the AI to take on the persona of a character in your story and reignite your passion for writing.

Everyone’s writing workflows are different, and so how you use AI will likely differ. If you are unsure about where to start, take it step-by-step and work through the list.
