Can I write a screenplay in Novelcrafter?
Novelcrafter is not only limited to prose - using the internal prompting you can write screenplays or scripts with the software.
One question we get asked a lot is “can I write a movie script in Novelcrafter”, and the answer is “yes”!
Whilst the default prompting is configured for novels, it is easy to create your own prompt or preset to change the output format to writing in script format. You can either clone the system prompt, and create one yourself, or copy our premade preset here:
Script Preset

If you wish to expand on this preset, you could provide it with examples of the format of the script/screenplay that you wish to use.
How do I use this prompt preset?
Once you have added the preset to your library, head over to the Write view and create a new scene beat. Select the new preset from the prompt dropdown, fill in the beat and hit generate.
The output should be in screenplay format, similar to this:
INT. UPSCALE BAR - NIGHT
Emma’s phone buzzes against the polished mahogany. She glances down, and her face drains of color.
