Codex relations, found in the Relations tab, are an organizational tool to link multiple codex entries together.

Let’s say you have a mafia group, and every time the group is mentioned in your scene beat, you want to feed to the AI the group’s hideout, their leader, and their emblem. You could link those entries under that of the mafia rather than including all of that information in one codex entry.

A Codex relation is NOT:

  • a link between a parent and child (as in, father/daughter, mother/son etc.)
  • shown in the prompts, other than to bring in the second entry.

How do I create a nested entry?

  1. Click on a codex entry.

  2. Click on the Relations tab.

    Codex references

  3. Under Relations/Connections, click + Add Entry .

  4. Select the codex entries that you want to nest under your codex entry. There is also a search box if you know the entry you want to nest.

    Select codex entry

How do I delete a nested entry?

  1. Click on a codex entry.

  2. Click on the Relations tab.

    Codex references

  3. Under Relations/Connections, locate the entry you want to delete.

  4. Click on the minus - symbol

    Delete nested reference

Oh no! I put the nested entries the wrong way around! How can I fix it?

  1. Click on the codex entry.

  2. Click on the Relations tab.

  3. Under Relations/Connections, locate the entry you want to invert.

  4. Click on the double-headed arrow to invert the relationship.

    Invert relationship

Why would I want to use a Codex Relation?

Codex relations are for when you want to link Codex items together.

Think a witch and her familiar; when one is mentioned, the other is always around, and we don’t want to mention both each time. Other examples include:

  • The tavern has the barkeep as a related entry.
  • A mafia might have its members as related entries.
